You may have noticed the dog picture on the bottom right corner of our packaging — that’s Dexter, the inspiration behind Doganic.
A Journey Through Dog Kidney Disease Care
On Christmas 2020, our dog Dexter had a seizure, a terrifying experience that led to a diagnosis of dog kidney disease. After running several tests, the vet discovered Dexter’s kidneys weren’t functioning properly, marking the beginning of our journey to find the best kidney diet for dogs.
Finding the Best Food for Dogs with Kidney Disease
After researching how to manage dog kidney disease, we realized that diet plays a critical role in supporting kidney health. We needed to provide food that was low in protein and sodium. While meat is a common protein source, we had to be cautious with Dexter’s intake, as many meats are high in protein—something to avoid for dogs with kidney issues.
Doganic’s Transformation
Dexter’s diagnosis pushed us to improve our treats. While we always made organic and natural dog treats, we initially used eggs for protein and salt for flavor. However, to cater to dogs with kidney disease, we removed these ingredients to create the best dog treats for kidney disease, focusing on low protein, potassium, and sodium content without compromising on taste.
We’re proud to say that our treats are safe for dogs with kidney disease*. We developed an organic dog treat that is low in protein, making it suitable for dogs with kidney issues, with the goal of becoming a vet-approved dog treat.
Dexter’s favorite flavor? Our delicious apple treat.
*While our veterinarian approved these low-protein dog treats for Dexter, we recommend consulting with your vet before offering any food or treat to dogs with kidney disease. Our treats were specifically designed to meet the dietary needs of dogs with kidney issues.
